I have found myself in possession of a $50 Amazon gift “card” (that is actually just a code in an email). I have a pretty decent Citizen watch with a stainless steel bracelet and black face. So I’m looking for something with a brown leather strap and light colored face.
I’ve narrowed it down to two watches that I kinda dig. Which should I get? I am open to suggestions but please keep within the following parameters:
Available on Amazon for $100 or less
Plain brown leather strap, no textured fake alligator-looking stuff
White, silver or beige face
Date functions and/or lights are desirable
Not too weird of a design
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - $86.35
Pros: it’s square, and has a calendar with a month function which I like because I like my watch to tell me the date, without having to reset the date for months with less than 31 days. Looks !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .
Cons: More than $50
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! - $38.46
Pros: Nice clean minimalistic style and you can very easily swap out straps for other ones. Indiglo. Under $50.
Cons: No date function . Makes a ticking noise you can hear if you’re in a quiet room.

Do the date functions actually work? When ever I buy cheap watches, these are either fake and they work for a week before they become inaccurate and/or stop working all together.

If you tell me the code, I’ll tell you if it’s valid or a scam.

If you like a more rugged look, Timex has the Expedition series digital combo watches for $60-$100

I prefer a more clean style, not something like I’d be wearing with hiking boots.

Supposedly it works just fine, like any other nice reliable Casio.

I dunno about those Stuhrling watches, something about them always being in the Skymall catalog makes me feel like they’re not good quality. Whereas a cheap Casio or Timex or whatever, at least you know it’s quality.

Seiko 5 watches are available for under $100 if you’re interested in an automatic. Usually with a canvas strap but with a bit of luck you can grab on with the desired leather band.

I only do round watches.
Kinda like Cookie Monster prefers round cookies.
I’m tired.

The watch making a ticking noise isn’t a con. :P Thats the watch doing what its supposed to do.
As for watches in that price range, I would just say you’ll need to make sure your $100 watch can “keep good time”. Nothing more frustrating than getting a timepiece and 10 days later you put it on and see that its 10min off the actual time.

That Casio is too busy for my liking. I have a few Weekenders and 8 or 9 different NATO straps. I really dig the Timex, but they are loud. My wife loves the sound of a ticking clock, and it doesn’t bother me. I can understand how it would annoy some.

My gf has a Timex that she keeps in her jewelry box on the dresser in our bedroom. I can totally hear it ticking at night.

I had a relatively cheap Seiko automatic many years ago and it didn’t keep good time. If I got a cheap Seiko again it’d be quartz. As for the one you linked, it looks alright but I want a light face since I already have my Citizen with a black face.

Damn that’d be really tempting for ~ $30

Yeah, you have to wear an automatic fairly regularly to keep it accurate or be prepared to adjust it when putting it on. There may be a light faced version of that watch I linked. It actually just popped up accidentally when searching for a leather banded Seiko 5.

Get a Microsoft Band (first generation). $100, does more than just track the time and date. I have one and love it. I only wear my metal watches for “date night” with my wife or other formal occasions (but even then I might wear the Band).

I dig that Timex. Stuhrling does a real nice piece for cheap. I’d check them out.

Under a hundred bucks? Timex or Seiko.
That Weekender really surprises me, I didn't think I'd like it, but it really works.

I really like the two you’ve chosen here - I think it depends on what you have already. I’m leaning towards the Casio myself, but it’s because my watches are mostly simple ones where a date is all it has. I like the Casio for looking like a chrono when all the complications are just different date features.
I’d say spending 30 bucks for the Casio is the way to go since you’ll probably end up spending over $50 anyway trying to max out that gift code after choosing the Timex. Also, my only beef with the Timex is the 13-24 hour markers in the middle - I don’t like it, but maybe some people do.

I...do not want a dorky rubber thing like that on my wrist, unless there’s some specific occasion that calls for it. I wear watches for how they look, and I want them to function alright too.
